I dug up this trade token on Sunday in Cabot next to the Community Center. It is for the Peter Sain store in Tillar, Ark. The token is good for 5 cents on the cash purchase of a $1.00 or more. Unsure of the age, but today Tillar has a population of 225.

Those old aluminum tokens sure take a beating don't they? Too bad cuz they are so obscure and loaded with history.

It's always cool to pull a token and then learn some of the history behind it.

Nice! That token is listed in T. H. Robinson's Arkansas Merchant Tokens book, but he gives no history. I see that Peter Sain was 60 years old and self-employed in Tillar in 1942. I'll have to dig out some directories I have of that time and see if I can tell more.

Cool find,,, salt used for melting snow in NYC really tears up the Zincolns and aluminum tokens.
Don't care about the Zincolns,, but it's sad to lose tokens like that.

Thanks for the info. I only found out the store burned in the 1920s after a robbery. Not sure if it was rebuilt. Peter died in 1950s. I'm not sure how old the token is.

I found out Peter Sain was the mayor of Tillar in 1914.
