No idea on age but definitely a cool find.

Since it has a hole for a sling swivel, I'd say it from a military weapon.
Since it appears to be brass, I'd say it was made during the CW or pre-civil war. Post war military trigger guards that you would expect to find in Tn. would be made or steel/iron (example would be a 45-70 Trapdoor Springfield).
Several common foreign import muskets used in Tn. during the CW had brass trigger guards (e.g. Enfields and some of those "pumpkin slinger" German muskets).

Very likely from a Civil War era British Enfield. I have an original and it looks like a match. Yours is broken and missing the back "tail"

I found this along side some .54 caliber Garners and also another handle looking thing. I'll try to post the other handle looking thing. Do you think it was used by Confederates or Union?

I found this near the trigger guard.

That's a trigger guard as well. Looks like a Brown Bess with the Roman numeral IIII engraved in it. Nice find!
