War nickel tonight

Went to the bank today...picked up $72 worth of nickels...I was hoping to add a buffalo with the war nickel but twas not to be....I garnered about 13 pre 1959's but I did pull a 62 D which I decided to keep because its condition was really nice.

I don't see the value in keeping low grade (g-f) 1940-1959 nickels (unless they are silver, error coins or 1950D).
Their current value is 5 cents and it hasn't risen over the last ten years.
I think, you are better off buying a single 1940s graded MS 65. It will apricate more those lower grade nickels.

I think, you are better off buying a single 1940s graded MS 65. It will apricate more those lower grade nickels.

I started out just filling in my coin books...when I've looked up various nickels their value appears to be more than 5 cents...if the mintage is low...but I've been mistaken before...I may take your advice and cash in all my pulled nickels and get a good one.

Now that I live in the Republic of Texas, things are different. 1950-1959 full boxes now garner $300, and 1939-1949 boxes $400.

A few months back, when visiting family in North Carolina, I found the market for nicks was similar to what you have experienced.

Conclusion: Collectors are a fickle lot. What is popular one day is shunned the next.

The nice thing about nickel roll hunting is that you are pretty much guaranteed to get a war or a buffalo nickel in the $100 boxes...it might take two boxes...but that's still better than what I get with dimes , quarters...the buffalos are really fun to get... especially if they have a noticeable date...

I haven't found any errors yet but I may not be looking close enough.... I've got my eye out for the Henning counterfeits...I also get my share Canadian/foreign coins...2 boxes a week is nice... I'm staggering my stops between two banks...the tellers get slightly bothered if I come in too much...
