So far I have managed a total of 168 - 40% halves.

My total make up looks like

65 - 16 (9.52%)
66 - 18 (10.71%)
67 - 56 (33.33%)
68 - 54 (32.14%)
69 - 23 (13.69%)
70 - 1 (0.60%)

To make the percentage, Divide the total for each year by the total number of 40% halves you own. Such as I own 16 halves from 1965. 16/168 = .0952 . Move the decimal point over 2 to the right to get the percentage. 9.52%

Year Mintage
1965............... 65,879,366 (7.77%)
1966............. 108,984,932 (12.84%)
1967............. 295,046,978 (34.76%)
1968 D.......... 246,951,930 (29.09%)
1969 D.......... 129,881,800 (15.30%)
1970 D.............. 2,150,000 (0.25%)

I haven't done the math comparison but your figures look like similar %'s to the total mintage figures:

Year Mintage
1965............... 65,879,366
1966............. 108,984,932
1967............. 295,046,978
1968 D.......... 246,951,930
1969 D.......... 129,881,800
1970 D.............. 2,150,000
1970 S...............2,632,810

Sorry about that EE, for some reason I didn't notice you had posted the mintage figures yourself. :)

I haven't been keeping track of the dates of my 40% finds (other than I haven't found any '70's) but I've found a total of 157 so far this year and I'm guessing my % figures are probably pretty similar to yours.

Here are my 40% stats out of 645:

1965 = 36 (5.58%)
1966 = 89 (13.80%)
1967 = 240 (37.21%)
1968 = 173 (26.82%)
1969 = 105 (16.28%)
1970 = 1 (0.16%)
1976s = 1 (0.16%)

Interesting how, with a good sample size, your numbers approach the mintage figures... (as they should) Looks like they are lying about how many they made.

I've found the dates to be:
1968d
1967
1969d
1966
1965

all in order from what I recieve most to the ones I get most uncomonly... I've never found a 1970 of any vareity, or the 1976 silver bicentennial.

I have a silver bic that I bought, but they are uncommon definitely because I have only seen a few posted on Tnet.
