Great article. What was interesting is the article says "gold coin is but little used in general circulation". No wonder we hardly ever find any.

yea I'm sure Gold was still Gold back then.
& when someone received one it was in payment for work done.
mostly by special request.
Remember all the cache stories with the Sentence "He insisted on being paid in gold"

Probably allot like today when you get lucky & the bank hands you a silver coin with your change.
