The temperatures rose to the upper 50s almost 60, an unheard-of temperature for February. Our coldest part of the year is Feb. Normally very cold, we burn some serious wood in the wood stove. The high wind and temps dried out the fields of the 2 to 3 inches of snow recently melted.

I left work early to take advantage of the warmth and hit the fields before the upcoming forecasted snowstorm. We are expecting 6 to 10 inches of snow where I am at. I am ok with that, it will beat down the fields more.

I decided o hit the field I found a nice point and full groove axe in a Dec 18 2021. The dry field conditions made it a little bit harder to find relics.

Flake scraper edge work

Walking out the sun was starting to go down, the shadows growing, I saw this black item which looked like a small tube in the dirt - was actually a broken drill made of coshocton flint - on a rise a LONG way from the area I was expecting.

Second broken drill of the day, fourth from the field too.

I enjoyed the day, now ready for the crazy storm brewing and expected to hit tomorrow as the cold artic air hits the warm air which came up from the gulf.

Great finds. Nice to not need gloves!

I could occasionally squeak out a February hunt in the fields near my Grandparents house when we would go up for a cluster of birthdays (my grandfather, my sister, a couple of aunts, my daughter.)

If you could hunt it was usually because it was it was a negative windchill. The snow was dry and the wind would blow leaving bare patches.
