Today's finds from an old farm field that I hunted with Keith from the CoinHunting.net forums. This is my best day ever as far as old coins go! I also got a few musket balls and other random sized bullets.

3 Shield Nickels - unreadable dates, anyone have any cleaning ideas?
1868 IH Penny - pretty ate up
1869 Nickel Three Cent Piece - 1st ever
1876 Seated Dime in VF / XF, just has a stain on it - 1st ever

Also pictured is a 1911-D Wheat Penny that I found last week at an old house site.

I went from a Mercury Dime straight to a Seated Dime and completely skipped over Barbers.

My camera doesn't do the Seated Dime any justice, oh well.

Nice Job Bsco.....I did the same thing...Went from Mercury to Seated. Then to the Bust coin before I found my first Barber coin period....Then finally found one! Looks like you have a place with great potential...Thanks for sharing your finds! WTG

Sadly, the potential for this site is on the downswing. It was a fairgrounds up until the 1870s or so and was discovered a few years ago by the guy I went out with today. He and others have hit it pretty hard for the past few years. I just happened to stumble across a little 10x10 area that had been walked over and the nickels were all hiding in what seemed to be an aluminum foil trash site. My buddy also got a shield nickel, and 2 IH pennies, and an arrowhead. The field has been pounded pretty hard this year as well and now we just have to wait until the farmer plows it again before we can find a whole lot more.

Congrats on the finds...those old fair grounds can really give up the silver! WTG

I found a buffalo nickel in unreadable state. Put it in rock tumbler iwth fish gravel as your medium and some water and that will take the crud off.

Great finds and I really like that one seated dime WOW. HH Burdie
