My girlfriend was leaving work a few days ago and happened to see something shiny on the ground. She saw what it was, as she investigated, and decided to bring it home for me to look at

I'm not too familiar with stones and really don't know how to definitively tell if it's real but so far it's looks like the 1.5 carat diamond is real. I'll take it to a jeweler tomorrow and get a accurate yes or no.

Does anybody have any other methods of testing other then scratching glass, breathing on it or looking through newsprint?

Is there a process where we can get it graded or do stones need to be purchased that way? It's all new to us but we would really like to know more. Thanks

Ever consider your girlfriend is hoping you'll get it mounted in a ring & give it back to her? :?

Great find!!! And exciting!!

I could make a guess on look alone:laughing7:, but I'm going to leave it to the jeweler and it's really hard to tell in person sometimes let alone in pics.......

If the jeweler says it's real, He may be able to direct you toward someone that grades them, A good jeweler can tell you or maybe even grade it for you. Probably for a fee of course.:laughing7:

as far as testing? Just let the jeweler do it..It's quick and easy! Then there's no question.

Cool find!!!!

My wife lost hers once...Luckily backtracked and found it on the floor of the woman's restroom! :laughing7:

Hah, nope. She already said it wasn't her cut and has no desire to keep it.

I gotta start hanging out in parking lots...........:laughing7:
Great find!!

If it's real and not old, it may have identifying numbers. Congratulations on a cool find and for having an observant girlfriend.

Try this quickie test...take a piece of white paper, with a pen or pencil make a very tiny dot on the paper (about the size of a period, place the item on top of it and look through the item to the dot. CZ will normally show a perfect circle or at least a symmetrical shape; a real diamond will give a scattered unsymmetrical shape. However, for certainty, take it to a jeweler.
