Your piece looks very familiar to me, I think there's a hole in the other end as well, probably to slip over a metal post.
My first thought was a paddock gate latch, but I'm now thinking it's more likely to be 'plow related'? :icon_scratch:

I find any metal with a hole in it is much more conductive and will fool your detector , happens all the time...

Big rusty metal often rings up much higher on my AT pro, especially if the soil is wet.
