DAY 1
I got back to the K to 8 school and cleaned up another section. I spent 5.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 41 coins with a face value of $2.88, a crusty wheatie, a blank lead seal, 2 game tabs, an ace bandage clip, a rusty old chisel, a rusty knob, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, 70 tabs and 12 pencil ends.

The lead seal is the right shape and size but this one has no identifying marks so just an old chunk of lead to recycle. The first tab is a Q from a Pepsi game the second is a T. It is different from ones I have found before. It might be from a Coca Cola game, but I’m not sure.

The old chisel is like ones I have found before. The knob is a different find. It is ferrous metal and has a hole in it that goes most of the way in. I’m not sure, but it does look a lot like a gear shift knob for an old floor shift.

DAY 2
I had time for a very short hunt so I went to 2 tot lots for an hour each to see if there have been any losses. I didn’t have a lot of luck, but I didn’t get skunked. The CZ21 managed to locate 28 coins with a face value of $0.72, an AVON ring, part of an aluminum carabiner, a few tabs and some foil. I’ll need to wait longer between trips to these lots to allow more time for contributions.

DAY 3
It was my birthday and I wanted to try for some gold so I went to a park swimming area I didn’t get to do last fall at the end of the season. You can’t go in the water when the swim ropes are removed and they took them out a week early in the fall. I called and they just went back in so off I went. I have found gold jewelry here every time I come here so I was confident I would find some for my birthday.

I spent 8 hours swinging the AtPro (my go to fresh water detector) in the water and found 6 coins with a face value of $0.67, lots of jewelry, 1 chewed up tab, small aluminum bits, fishing sinkers, a shoe grommet, a fishing swivel, pellet gun pellets, part of a kids net handle, stainless screws from the swimming rope floats, selfie stick retainers, foil and some hair pins (hair pins are ferrous, but they can be big and I scoop they because they mask smaller goodies).

The finds overall were down from past hunts, either someone else beat me to it or there were fewer losses last year. But I did find some goodies even though most of them are small. 11 silvers…4 stud earrings, 2 hoop earrings, 4 earring backs and a ring. The ring is not connected and was down about 12 inches in the sandy bottom so the signal was not great. I thought it was another earring until I got it out of the hole and saw it in the scoop. There is 1 gold. It is marked, but it is not readable so I had to test it. It tests as 14k. There is a huge CZ and a very small gold frame so not worth a lot, but a lot better than silver and better value than a year ago so all is good.

DAY 4
I got out to the middle school and cleaned up a couple of spots that had not been covered. I ran into some really dead spaces with nothing and a few spots with some decent finds so not a bad day, but things are thinning out and I need to get permission for another school soon.

I spent 5.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and managed to find 55 coins with a face value of $2.85, a ring, a cheapie earring, screw in cleats, what appears to be a front to a 2 piece dome button, an aluminum tag that looks like it was made in shop class, a RUBBERMAID zipper pull, an aluminum disk that looked like play money but isn’t, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, scrap construction aluminum, chunks of lead, 21 tabs and 5 pencil ends.

DSCN3987.webp

The ring was a nice surprise. I dug a dime and got another high tone about 3 inches away and I thought it was another dime (sometimes dimes come in pairs) and out popped the ring. It is pretty beat up and out of round.

DSCN3989.webp

I found a ring that was bent up last week. I took a few minutes and worked on them both. They still need a little work, but they are at least round now.

The lead is a small chunk and a large one. Together they weigh about 3.5 pounds. For some reason I like lead…..bullets, sinkers etc. The scrap price is decent so another couple of dollars in the near future when I take in this year’s scrap.

DAY 5
I went to a school I haven’t been to in a long time. Detected around the baseball field and the hill where the parents sit to watch the games. Some kids sled ride on the hill also. I also worked around the sidewalks and the edges of the parking lot.

I spent 4.5 hours with the CZ21 and found 88 coins with a face value of $4.34, a toy motorcycle and pieces of another one, a 1955 wheatie, a mower hit piece of jewelry, a play coin, a brass buckle, an ace bandage clip, 2 keys, a beat up aluminum kiddie ring, a piece of melted brass, aluminum bottle caps, can slaw, a chunk of lead, a piece of copper pipe, 18 tabs and 3 pencil ends.

DSCN3993.webp

The play coin is one I have found before. It was hit by the mower and is is bad shape. It reads PLAY HALF FALSA PECUNIA and has a stag head in the center.

DSCN3994.webp

I have found melted brass before. The melting point of brass is 1,700 degrees F. My best guess is that it was melted in a house fire

NON DETECTOR FINDS
Someone joked about me wearing out my trowel because I dig so many targets. As you can see from this view of my current trowel and my new spare that has not been used I AM wearing it out. (I like to have replacement equipment handy in case of loss or breakage). I do more digging with a shovel than a trowel and over the years I have worn out or broken a number of shovels and a few trowels.

I take my tumbled coins to my local credit union and I have run it through their sorting machine in the lobby (like a coinstar machine) and lately they have asked me to roll the coins to spare wear and tear on their new machine. I went in the other day and they will no longer take my detecting coins. They said the coins would damage their machine and the coins are not in good enough shape and people getting rolls of coins are complaining about the condition of the coins so no machine and no rolls. I guess I will have to use one of the local coinstars. The credit union did not deduct a fee because I am a member. With the coinstar I will loose a percentage, but it looks like I don’t have a choice. Do any of you have problems getting your coins cashed in?

This was a little more than a week. We are leaving for a visit to our daughter in New Mexico and so no detecting for the next 10 days or so. We will eventually move out there so maybe I will scout out a few places and see what the rules and regulations are where we will be living.

Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
