Coins lost down the back of couches and rubbish dumps are costing the Royal Australian Mint $110 million to replace.

The Mint makes 255 million coins a year, which make up for lost currency

After that news broke, it looks like Minelab will have a new metal detector in the works! Maybe it will be a Minelab TD 9000, TD for Trash Dump. Hopefully it will be more in the low to mid range priced category, seeing that users will be up to their' knees or waist in everybody else's crap to try to find all this lost coinage!

A metal detector made specifically for searching for coins in trash dumps. You sure don't want a metal detector that will signal on poopy diapers like hot rocks because the poop was full of Iron!

lol...all you need is a match. Set the dump of fire and pick up the coins afterwards. Then recycle all the metal to Minelab. Ha

All the more reason to give the MD a model name of TD9000 as it could be made from recycled trash dump metal along with some plastics and wires found while rummaging through all the trash.

I would be more interested in the Garrett CD 486. The "Couch Diver" discriminates metal springs, bobby pins and breakfast cereal. Many hunters with the CD 486 can be seen in the furniture section at your local thrift store.
