The 12X10 widescan is made for more heavily mineralized soil w/o a lot of junk, so it depends on what you are wanting to do with it and the type of soil in your area.
Personally, I'd look more at one of the 5.75" coils either the concentric or widescan. You'd probably find more use for them but then again not knowing your type of hunting, it's a bit harder to give more effective advise.

Well i live in michigan, just the U.P. would have a heavier soil. i mostly like to look for jewlery, but i like to find coins and relics if there out there. i like to go a little deeper if possible. I know i may need to upgrde.im going to spend 1300 dollars on a whites but thats next year. But last week i held a whites spectrum with a 15inch coil and could not beleave how much heavier it was. my one arm would be like popeye after 2 months, so i would like to avoid the weight. And if the cobla can keep up with the whites dfx 300, I would hold off

To be honest and as much as I like the Cibola, the Cibola was having a time in NW Arkansas finding a mini ball at a measured 6 inches or a silver dime at 4 inches that that heavy mineralized soil. It did get a weak signal on the mini and a bit stronger on teh dime with supertuning. That was with the factory coil and I didn't have the 12X10 at the time. The bigger coil does make the Cibola quite a bit bottom heavy and is really not made for schools, parks, or heavy trashed areas. I'm not familiar with the DFX 300 but have heard the main difference form the old DFX was the open spider coil as compared the the 950 coil that the original DFX came with. I don't know what other modifications they made to it.

stoney56 has given you some good advise. I would advise that you go with the 5.75" coil to upgrade your Cibola for jewelry hunting. In most cases, success in jewelry hunting is all about ID,not depth Joe

so if i get a smaller coil ill be able to find jewlery a little better than the stock? the 5 centric

It depends. You've a better chance of finding jewelry if you're willing to get wet and sandy. In that case, a stock coil will cover more area even if you overlap your swing by 1/2. At that point, you should run minimal disc.

If you get the 5.75 widescan, it handles mineralization well. I've got the 12 x 10 and don't see any difference in depth from the stock. It is heavier though. Of course it covers more ground. My buddy got the DFX 300 and I see no better depth than my Cibola with the stock coil. Heavy as hell though.

will this be a good upgrade for my cibola from the one that came with it. Im just hopeing befor i buy it if i can get some insight i cant afford to lose money.. just any thought's like does it go deeper than the stock.

Instead of that huge coil you should get the 5.75" concentric coil or the DD version.

Makes the machine feather light and since the Cibola can handle a fast sweep speed you can cover a lot of ground with that little coil. The 5.75" gets great depth too.

Unless the mineralization is a real problem in your area, don't go with the widescan 5.75. You would be defeating the purpose of going to a smaller coil because it will not separate the trash as well as the concentric. Trash separation and ID is what jewelry hunting is all about. Please get back to me. Joe
