Woke up at five o'clock. My mom had already prepared some food to take with me. In 40 mins I got to the same hill where I found last Sunday the big byzantine coin. Till 12 o'clock nothing special except this strange coin.

than some coins came one after one. They are more than 2100 years old and almost flat.
Near a small bush I had an iffy sound. It looked like a piece of bronze but cleaning it with the fingers was enough to see that it was cold. First I found only the biggest part so I had to search for the others. I missed the small piece on the center.

Gold Solidus, Justinian 527-565 AD.

And just before leaving I found this silver coin. No idea yet.
Thanks for reading.

I was already doing that but while searching how to clean gold coins I red that is better to keep it like this! Don't know!

Outstanding job on that amazing gold......but your not done until you go back and find the missing piece.I would not rest until I have it all together. Super job Vince:thumbsup:

Thanks Villagenut.
I almost thought to camp near the hole. I didn't want to leave without that piece but it was impossible. My pinpointer couldn't find it but now I think I could use other methods.

Very nice find! Is that a goose on the solidus?

I was talking about cleaning that little Silver you posted. I wouldn't clean the Solidus at all. It's already broken and the staining is part of it's history.

Sorry, it's the gold effect. I will :icon_thumleft:

Ugly, but a great start. We know it is just the start...

It is what it is...beauty!!

Fantastic hunt, congratulations on the very old coins! :notworthy:

That's an incredible day you had Vince. I can sense that you're still stoked. :headbang: How do you top that find?? Once in a lifetime find bro, congrats to you.

I'm curious though - what could cause a gold coin to shatter like that?!?!?

Take a gold pan and pan the tailings from and around the hole, you can't miss with a pan.

I found it after five hours of searching without results so I stopped for a moment. It was the perfect moment to have a rest. After two years of metaldetecting I consider it my best find. It has been waiting for me more than 1500 years. Thanks bro.
