1600s French silver?

Found this at a site in New England where many other 1600s coins were found.

Curious. If anyone can help ID this. I know there's hardly much to go on but figure it's worth asking.

Coin is roughly size of capped bust half dime.

Looks hammered and maybe homemade custom silver to address the shortage of hard currency in that era...
 

given the small size (and i assume , thin?) and what appear to be a lot of squiggly lines on it, I would guess Ottoman silver 1500s-1700s-- even though new england is not a likely place to find these. But they did get around as jewelry pieces. However I also agree it could be a home-made silver piece. I don't see any letters or numbers on it that would pass it off as a U.S or European coin.
