Congratulations! You got a nice one there, and you took a very good picture of it as well. Good luck on finding more. There is definitly more to this than just pulling silver and melting it into cheap jewelry or something! I'm glad you take the time to find the errors.. HH Gpurs....

I'm VERY new to this. What you do look for in a double die?

Joanner,

1974 D Kennedy half has a double strike on the TRUST in "In God We Trust". You can clearly see it on the picture I posted. A 10x loop makes it easier to see the error. When I search through my halves I keep out the 1974 D's and search through those at the end. I have searched hundreds of 1974D halves and this was the first one I have found.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info. I think I will have to get a set of loops. I went through two boxes (actually loose bags) of halves just the other night. Now I am going to go through them one more time before I turn them back to the bank.

Thanks!

17,919 halves!?!? That is a LOT of work for one coin that you could probably pick up for a couple of bucks! I read about some of the huge amounts of coins that people on this board spend time searching. Usually (unless you're LJ) the results are extremely small. I guess I just don't understand spending that much time for such small results. But hey, if it makes you happy...give it hell!

Most of the fun of CRHing is the thrill of the hunt for me. Yes, for some of the more difficult coins, there is the thrill of the hunt to find and buy the coins. But for me, it mainly a thrill of searching. For example, in a $50 bag of pennies I average around 16-20 wheat pennies which I could buy for $1 or less, but yet I find more satisfaction is searching since there is always that chance of finding something thats worth a lot more. Yes, it rarely happens, but it mainly just costs me my time.

Overall, CRHing is no different from many other activities which people do: deer hunting, certain types of fishing, gambling (most kinds), and metal detecting just to name a few. It has to do with enjoyment, or at least it should. Of course just like the above mentioned activities, being the right location at the right time can lend itself to superior results.
