17 cannonballs , frags , fuses , bullets etc.

The day before Thanksgiving Day , I hunted near a CW battle site and found 3 shell frags , the base cup of a 4 inch Hotchkiss shell, 2 fired 3-ringers and 2 case shot or musketballs. Thanksgiving Day I returned to the area and found 8 grape shot/cannister balls and 3 smaller iron case shot. I also found the fuse of a parrot shell, 2 pieces of lead sabot , 17 fired 3-ringers, several shell frags , a recently dropped "live" 12 ga. shotgun shell , some sort of lead band and an old medicine bottle and a "Merry Widows" tin along with some unidentified iron. The following day I hunted the site once more and found 4 more grape shot, 2 more iron case shot balls, a dozen more fired 3-ringers , a piece of shell fuse, another lead band identical to the previous one, and about a dozen more shell and cannonball frags. Also some sort of brass whatsit I'll post in "What Is It" forum. I didnt take pics of the last hunt's finds, but you get the idea.

Very cool finds indeed! Now go get more. What was the chain used for? Do you think that it had a specific use? I noticed that the chain has a twisted style linking on it. Any ideas?
