I found this a couple days ago on a local farm field. It's obviously cut with some apparent plow damage as well. It has the "25" half of the date, I'm fairly certain it's 1725 but of course I could be wrong.

Sweet find! Maybe it was once pirate loot! :treasurechest::skullflag::headbang:

sweet!, that's too bad it got bent up, but I suppose it adds character

Great find buddy! Love the Spanish

Congrats! Great looking cut silver. That's high on my list for the year. HH!

Cut and bent it still a fantastic find. Personally I prefer them with character like that, it speaks to the age of it and what it's gone through for the last 200+ years.Congrats.

Very nice find JD! I'm surprised you were able to find a place to hunt with all the snow we have on the ground around here, but you probably got out just before the last big one. BTW - how did that coin register on your machine? Was it in the silver range? Based on its look, and especially where its bent, it has somewhat of the appearance of a counterfeit coin. Looks like I may be seeing a brittle texture at the break, but maybe I'm just seeing things. Would like to hear more details and maybe see some more detailed pics. That would still be an awesome find even if it was a period fake.

really fantastic find too! loads of character and down right cool! my body won't let me do any of those crazy moves anymore but my mind would be doing them if I found something like that. congrats

nice find, sweet you got half the date too.Don't lie dirtlooter, you know you would be break-dancing.I would be swinging in circles like a chicken with it head cut off myself.

Wow! Congrats on the cut piece of Spanish silver!

Sucks it got hit but still a great find. Looking at the photos my first thought was the same as Bills that it appeared to be counterfeit. Maybe it's just the lighting. Counterfeit would be a great find too.

Thanks for all the comments so far.

Bill, yeah I got out for a bit on Wednesday, between the snow. It was hitting in the high 70s, between 76-78. There is certainly something a bit funky looking going on at the bend/break. I noticed it as soon as I rinsed the dirt off. It appears to be flaking, almost like there's an outer layer or something. Kind of reminds me of pewter. Counterfeit didn't even cross my mind at first but now that you've mentioned it it would make sense.

That just threw the neat factor up imo.I wonder when it was cut to make change, if a receiving party caught on?I would imagine they might hang someone for that back then,or just straight up shoot ya.

Sure looks counterfeit...........Don't matter tho!..............IMO just as good as a real one!!

Keep checking the area, you might find more coins.

Excellent find! Congratulations.
