1796 1c "NC-6"?

Looking through my coins preparatory to selling, and found an odd one, at least I think. Of all the coins shown on the PCGS website, this is most closely related to the famous "NC-6" variety, which has only 2 other known specimens. I have taken photos this evening, but they may be too dark (and in too poor condition) for much to be determined. New photos taken this morning. Can anyone help identifying this?

If it is an NC6, it has substantial value. There is a group called. Early American Coppers. They will have a lot more information. There will also be quite a few dealers associated with them that could help you make the final determination.

The determine factor is the reverse. The leaves of the wreath confirm this is an NC6. The poor overall condition also confirms the variety.

That's great. If you are convinced that it is an NC6, you should send it to PCGS for verification and grading. Granted the grade will be low, but if it is a new 1 of now 3, it will be worth the effort.

Something like this should be sent to Grellman or shown to a leading EAC expert for verification of the variety.

I've found that if you tell them what variety you are thinking, they are VERY solid in identification. They have people on staff who specialize in early die varieties. I'd still go with PCGS and if there is some question, I would go to a specialist. You COULD go to a collector for an opinion if there is one in the area.
