I was absolutely thrilled when I figured out what this coin was this morning. I plucked it from the earth, where it had lay near a pine tree on a hill side, under about 10 inches down. I couldn't tell exactly what it was because I didn't have my glasses. But when I got home and started to clean off some of it... it got exciting. Looks like an 1796-8107 Large Cent. As near as I can tell the date is 1799. What are some good, safe cleaning techniques? Anyone know what coin like this would be worth?
