Spent all day digging bottle caps and other junk at 7 inches at an early 1800s home site I've hit before. About to leave, I checked near the old hitching post and was shocked to see an 1898 barber dime in the hole about 3 inches deep.

Decided to put my machine in deus fast and check around the trashy areas within 3 or 4 feet of the foundation before heading out. Got a faint high signal...pulled out a nail and filled the hole. Checked again and still had a signal...after opening it back up I popped out a green disc!!

Turned out to be a 180something large cent. Back is real nice, cant seem to read the last number of the date. Hopefully I can clean it off once I get home.

Beautiful old copper recovery! :occasion14:

Very nice! Great job sticking to it and gaining these great finds - congrats! :occasion14:

Nice finds ! The DB has a ton of detail - if you can find a way to safely clean the crust off that , without wrecking the patina , you'll have a serious coin there .

I think I can see the top of a "1" but not sure. If so, it was made only 5 or 6 yrs. after the US started coining money. That's getting back there! Gary

Wow a couple of beauties. Congrats.
