Two weeks ago, I was hunting the backyard of a friend who lives on the site of Fort Heileman, a Second Seminole War fort located in Middleburg, Florida. I thought this was just another encrusted flat button that had lost it's shank, but when I finally got to cleaning it last night, I had a pleasant surprise; it was an 1837 large cent, and it's cleaned up nicely. I'll post some pics. Coin_1837_Cent.webpCoin_1837_Cent_Obv.webp

Nice looking coin !!!

Nice coin she is purrty

Nice how deep was it?

It was about 5 or 6 inches. The Vaquero picked it up through a lot of rusty clutter from fencing and old nails. The Vaquero is really good at that, which is helpful in littered places.

Nice find !!!

Hello Thommy. Real nice find. Sounds like you got more diggin' to do there, Middleburg looks real close to the St Johns, bound to be more old stuff in the neighborhood.

It's great to see old coin finds like yours here in FL...they sure keep you intersted.

I found an LC about 60-MI south of yours...also near the St Johns...also in a backyard. I'd say that's pretty far-out and solid.

Post a better pic of your LC after cleaning if possible, see mine below.
