Found this 1839-o half dime with the back rotated a 1/4 turn , cant find anything about it so doses it count for much or not . Also found a 1865 penny with a hole in it of course , this was at one of my civil War sites . I found another 39-o about one mile from here about two years ago but it was made right . Any help on the 1/2 dime will help . Good luck to all & HH.

I like the fact that the cent was holed with a square nail. as for the half d thats a sweet find but I don't know if the offset is rare.

i have the cherry pickers guide wich lists errors and i didnt see anything for 1839at all but that is a nice coin anyway. i know the 18380 is worth a few bucks but isnt that just how it goes. nice find though. :icon_sunny: willy

It is not that unusual on earlier coins and does not really add to the value, but improper cleaning will greatly reduce the value.

Very nice coin. I found a mercury dime last year that had a rotated die error.

Sweet dime!!!

Love that half dime.

i'm not a coin manufacturing expert but i'm sure i can give my opinion, coin face rotation could happen when the die was either possibly not installed properly or one side just simply tuned because it was loose and the repetitive up and down jarring action of stamping coins made one side of the die to slightly spin.

Thats crazy.......never even heard of a rotated die :icon_scratch:...that why I love this web site, always something new. Great find :icon_thumright:

That is exactly what happens, during striking the die works loose and rotates a bit.
