Hello! So I found this a couple of weeks ago at an 1850’s military fort. It was very deep, and was a folded up piece of lead. When I opened it, there were pistol/ buck and balls inside. Anyone know why this would be? Soldier making lead satchel for bullets? Buried for safe keeping? Lewis and Clark were in 1805. They had their gun powder in lead flasks, each flask was made with enough lead to cast bullets for that amount of powder. You might have found the remains of something like that. Hard to tell. I don't know if that idea was used for other military outfits, it would require some research.
