1857 Patent Mississippi "Vicksburg & Meridian Rail Road" bale seal. Beautiful condition!

Found this beauty today in Clinton, MS. It's my 2nd bale seal and the better of the two by far! My first one was an Vicksburg & Alabama railroad which was this same railroad after a name change/restructuring in 1889.

I believe the patent is 1857 on this and from what I see online this should be around civil war era or just slightly after.

Excellent part of Mississippi history, I am thrilled to have found it!

I always thought they were bale seals too. Thanks for posting that about being RR door seals.
What book is that? Crouch's CW relics book?

Man, that's a nice seal. Congrats to you. I'm going to have to relook at mine now. Some of them were dug near RR tracks. Interesting post. :icon_thumleft:
