Went out for a short hunt after work, had to take a 20 to 25 minute break because of a downpour and thunder storm to pass through but managed to hunt for an hour and a half or so and find 1858 German coin, 1943 Mercury dime, 1944 D Mercury dime, and a 1947 Rosie dime.

Here is the info on the German coin, when cleaning off the crud I got down to bare metal with the magic pencils but I checked to make sure it wasn't a million dollar coin before I did that LOL

Thats a nice 2 Pfennige coin! Somewhat rare find in the States! Naturally we dig them often here but never in this good condition. Fertilizer eats them up. Often you only can ID them because of the script 2....

The 2 Pfennig coin is from Schaumburg-Lippe located in NW Germany. In 1858, the land was ruled by George Wilhelm (1787-1860), and his crowned initials GW form the principal device for the reverse of the coin. Apparently 1858 was the only date the 2 Pfennig was issued. 360,000 pieces were minted with the "A" mint letter. "A" usually indicates the Berlin mint which often manufactured coinage for other lands besides Prussia.

Cool coins, you had a great hunt!

Fertilizer kills our copper coins also. This one came off the beach with brackish water. I was a bit taken back from shape it was in, just knowing how our Large Cent coppers and Indian-head pennies come out of the ground here.

Thanks for commenting

Thank you for taking the time out in writing up that history. Much appreciated!
