I went out today detecting without a lot of luck

When I got back I decided to take a closer look at a couple of coins that my son and I found last week. One is a 1862 (I believe) Nova Scotia Cent and the other an 1861 British Penny. We each found one a the same time about 10 feet apart.

A close examination of the very toasted Nova Scotia Cent makes me think it is an 1862. I can see the top of the curve of the last number and it drops down too far for a 1, also I believe I can see the leading edge of the foot. I have circled them in the photo. You might have to enlarge to see.

Taking a closer look at the 1861 British Half Penney, I see that it is the very scarce F over P variety or a Halp Penny. Although not worth a lot of money in this condition, a fine condition one is valued at $450.00, it is still a nice surprise.

That is a nice way to end the week, it is unusual to find 2 scarce coins where we did. The house site was not a wealthy area in the 19th century and the people who lived there would have been very careful with their money
