spartacus 53,

wow...

thanks...

all put all my detectors to work on this one.

Thanks spartacus 53 but I already read both those accounts and can't seem to locate any additional information. I'm hoping to scare up something different.

HAve you looked in the area libraries and historical society for copies of newpapers from that time? Robberies would surely be in the paper.

I've lived In Ellis my whole life. I've researched this and nothing in any records indicate that it ever took place. It is a tale based more on legend than reality. The $22,000.00 amount comes from a rumor about 2 men that came thru town about the time of the Union Pacific Big Springs robbery of 60,000.00 in gold. Polecat Collins and his partner were killed at Buffalo Park by a posse, two more men were supposed to have come thru Ellis and moved on. Sam Bass was also involved in this robbery, it's on the internet here.... http://www.legendsofamerica.com/we-joelcollins.html
