Pounded away this am.

I got an older button that I did a little research on the web. I found a site that placed the manufacture of this button to the year 1880. That's pretty cool if true! Does anyone know of any button reference site? I would think it was some kind of military button?

Couple wheats, another button and chain, and a little clad.

Nice morning for digging!!

Dreamweaver, your find is a U.S. Navy uniform button of a type used from about 1850 to 1941. Although Jacob Reed's firm was established in 1824, all buttons marked "Jacob's Reed's Sons" date after the Civil War. The company remained in business until 1983.

Thanks for the info PBK!!

The area that I found the botton in circa late 1800's early 1900's, at least from the coins I have found. It hit like a deep coin, thinking it was another Indian, what a pleasant surprise!!!
