1883 Shield Nickel!

Went through a bag of nickels tonight and found lots of foreign, not a whole lot of pre-60's, 2 war nics and my first shield nickel!
I thought it was a slug at first because it was so smooth. My macro focus missed the date but it is readable!

Wow.....great find Tim!! Wahooo! It still amazes me that coins like this one being so old are still being found. This has got to be the oldest nickel found this year .

It is amazing that a coin that old would be around and still in circulation after 125 years.
They probably sit in a jar or cigar box until someone decides to dump all that "old" change into a coin star.
