Last Friday I dropped some fliers at three early 1900's houses. I had a call on Sunday giving me permission to a 1902 house sitting on 3/4 acre in town.
I hit it yesterday after work for a few hours. Let me just say, the mosquitoes were horrible!!! :o I think they actually liked the deet I had on. :dontknow:
Hoping for a bit of silver, but it was not to be. (yet)
My finds were:

*1943 - British 3 Pence. :occasion14: (This sucker is hard to clean!)

*Wheats- 1910, 26, 30 (x2), 41, 44.
*Good Luck token with "Jean loves Earl" on it :love3: :love4: :love7:

*Pipe cover dated 1901 & 1910

*Hem weight , harmonica reed, keys, rivet.

That's all folks.
Thanks for looking,
MM

Fliers. That's it. :sign13: I will post them all over town. My phone should be ringing off the hook. :D

Nice hunt MM. Love that 3 pence.

That great finds, but it's too bad about Jean and Earl, cuz "Earls gotta Die!!!
You have some cool hunts!

I thought Jean liked oil. ??? Isn't "earl" Southern for oil?
"My cars running low on earl." :laughing9: :tongue3:

Nice hunt MM. Love that 3 pence.

Give it a shot. It's about a 50/50 chance in most cases. Once you get into one though, you can usually get the neighbors houses too then. :icon_thumleft:

I like your formula for permission...Fliers. Maybe I will try it Doug. Some interesting finds you have there. You ought to try to donate blood to the Red Cross instead of your local mosquito population. :laughing7:

Nice finds. Thanks for the tip for finding old home sites.

That's it........flyers. I'll give it a try Doug. Nice digs, but where's all of the coins ??? Nice 3 pence

Dug,

You never cease to amaze me with your permission missions. That is a good idea for getting permission for homes. If you put out 100 flyers, I bet you'll get at least 50 permissions. :headbang:

The three pence is a coin I think Kirk might have found a few years ago. Nice one, Dugster!

Sir Kyle

You mean to tell me that a FAMOUS Relic Hunter who has been published in Western & Eastern Treasures Magazine and featured in Raleigh,NC Newspapers this year AND found an extremely rare NC Buckle and CSN Button has to hand out fliers. I would think you are as famous as Tom Cruise out there. Good Finds Bud.
Since there was no silver there, was there a sign in the front yard that read "Buckleboy was here". HH.

I've used them for years. Be sure to put info about yourself, the SMALL plug size you dig & refill, a list of references (very helpful), and a few pictures of some relics. That way they have an idea of what you are all about.

Thanks Sir Kyle.
Actually I'm just killing time hunting these old homes in town until I can get back into the fields & woods at my older plantation spots.
I have to keep busy. ;D These 1900's houses haven't turned up many silver coins, but my NC buckle was found in the yard of a 1905 house, so you never know what will pop up.
Good luck this weekend you Coppa Killers! :icon_thumleft:

Hey don't forget NSCWT mag too. ;D
I'm just killing time until fall really. These old house yards are easy to hit & I only have to deal with mosquitoes but no ticks & snakes. ;D
I think you're right with the silver though. Buckles must have been down this way. :dontknow: ;D
I've been painting my wheat pennies silver though just to make myself feel good. :tongue3:

Cru,
I think you're right. I've tried hot peroxide, scrubbing with a toothbrush, and a 2 hr dip in an ultrasonic bath, but this cakes on dirt won't budge. :dontknow:
Not exactly a high $ coin, but I was hoping to get it cleaner than this.
Is a 3 pence coin still used in the UK? ???

MM,
Congrats on your finds.

The other day I was given the nod by the boss (yes, my wife) to go out and detect. It had been awhile so I was excited and forgot bug spray. I get to the late 1800s home and it is completely overgrown but since I had limited time I figure what the hell. I knew the mosquitos were bad but did not know how bad until I walk into my house and the wife says 'Oh my God'. I'm just glad that mosquito bites only last a few hours on me then fade away.

Man, you're lucky. These things stick with me for a week & I'm like a mosquito magnet. :'(

(Mosquito Magnet)

Mosquitoes, or not, that is a beautiful looking house to hunt on. You did pretty well on the coin front and you walked away with some nice relics :icon_thumleft: Even if you only get one hit from the flyer's you have accomplished your mission.

no its pre-decimal. Coins finished in 1967 but continued in use until 1971.
