Here is another beauty that was in the collection I just got, I am thinking a 1908S/S is what it looks like to me. All opinions appreciated, maybe it already is a listed variety, I have no idea.

I dont think strike doubling and I dont think it is a die chip it is entirely to perfect. If you look at lower half of the curve in the S you can see something is underneath it, I just dont know what it is, how about a S/D?? Now that would be a hell of a find!!!

The only problem with that is there wasn't a D on a cent until 1911.

I'd be thrilled just to have the 1908-s... ;D There is definitely something there out of the norm, what it is I'm not sure. Have you thought about sending it out to PCGS or NGC to be evaluated, graded and/or slabbed?

PCGS is an absolute waiste of time and money, I will never send them another coin again, I have a great 1890 morgan probably ms64-65 range, I sent it in and it came back with an altered surfaces, I checked it under my microscope and it seems that there was maybe some type of die polishing to remove some doubling, PCGS is a complete joke and also sending a coin in for presidential review is a joke because they never get reversed or upgraded. I discussed this topic with a well known variety attributer and he was in complete agreement. They only want your money and if your coin doesnt get graded there is nothing you can do, I have not dealt with NGC yet but probably will give them a try somewhere in the near future.

I agree, I think it is machine double. It happens when dies start to get worn.

I think they are called RPM. Re-punched mintmark. Look it up. Nice coin!

hi what you have is called "Stike Doubleing" where the die was loose & it moved just a hair..... the following picture shows what hub doubleing looke like look at the notches where the arrows apper
