At lunch time today I hit a park that has been giving up 1 or 2 silver coins each 45 minute hunt. Today I found some modern coins and three wheaties but no silver until I was just about to leave. I found a dime only an inch down that was in hard packed dirt. Once I looked closer I could see it was a Mercury Dime but really crusty. I could not see a date.
Came back to the office and right into a two hour meeting. Straight from the meeting into the bathroom to run the dime under some warm water. When I wiped the front off I could see the 1916 date. I stopped cleaning it. Looked at the back which is still very crusty so I could not see if there was a mint mark or not.
When I get home I will post some pictures and ask for some feedback on how to clean the back so I can see if it is a D mintmark. Wish me luck.
