I wonder how many 1916 Standing Liberty Quarters (and other rarities) were melted......actually, I hate to think that even one was.

Mac is right, cuz the mint never recorded what years were melted, just like the Morgan melt downs.
 

I would imagine they had a lot of well worn Seated and Bust coins that went into the furnace. I remember the slicked out Walkers, Standing Liberty, Mercs, Wheaties, and Buffalos we used to get in change in the early 60's that had been in circulation 40-50 years were pretty well shot out.
