I was digging on a farm in Massachusetts that has a plaque on it that says 1718. Research on the farm shows it goes back to the 1600's. This was my second time on the farm, the first time turned up nothing. I was pretty excited to find this coin, even though New England soil has it beat up. If you look closely at the Obverse you can see the nose, but also to the left of his head, you can read the letters "IUS". On the reverse, you can see the harp and if you look very closely, I believe you can read the 17. You can also see her arm and the "NIA" above her head. It may not be my best condition find, but I think it's my coolest find and certainly my oldest.

Great find but i think its a little older than "1923" as your title says! Haha

I just found a Hibernia from 1823, which was the last date they were minted. Yours looks like the one with Brittania leaning on a harp which dates to the earlier side of Hibernias. Bust right which is Geo 1st of 3rd. I would look more but my eyes hurt and I have no references in front of me. Great find!

That's what I get for posting when tired. Is there a way to edit that?

Congrats on a great find. Let her soak in oil for awhile.

Don't you hate when that happens! [emoji2]
Tired or excited/rushing to post and make a mistake on the title.
I think if you ask a moderator they can change it for you! [emoji106]

Funny, when I saw Hibernia in the title I didn't even notice the date as the Hibernia's were made 1722-1724. They have a very distinctive obverse profile. It might be a little toasted, but a nice find.

Congrats on digging that oldie. :occasion14: You guys on the East coast have much more opportunity to dig pre 1800 coins. Bet you're glad you went back there to hunt.
