1930's badge/photo link

I just found this item ("reporter badge") at an old house. Mine is tarnished and won't photograph well, but I found this exact one on Ebay. It's not really worth anything, but in an interesting coincidence, a long time reporter for the New York Times lives in the house (however just since the 1980s, not back to the 30s). I'm sure he'll be interested to have it. Click and scroll to photo...

Got to give that one back to the owner! I think he would love it....
Give it to me and let me clean it before you do so.

I found one of those myself. Love that thing (and I'm a writer/reporter as well). I've posted a pic of the one I found.

I did a little research on this, and it turns out that Scoop Ward was a radio personality back in the 1920s and 1930s. His radio show, "News of Youth," was the first news program geared specifically toward kids. This badge is probably something kids sent away for after saving up proofs of purchase. Fun stuff.

Again nice find. I'd love to find more things like these.

Cheers,
B

Nice, Bergie--

I've found one of those as well... Here's what PBK had to say about the badge:

A premium issued 70 years ago for the CBS radio show News of youth, narrated by Laddie Seaman, alias Scoop Ward. Sponsored by Ward’s Soft Bun bread and Silver Queen pound cake, the 1935-37 program targeted the teen audience and featured dramatizations of actual news events of the day. While the badge probably appealed more to preteen listeners, members of Scoop Ward Press Club were also offered the tantalizing opportunity to own grown up gear such as a high-quality camera or Underwood portable typewriter. They stood a good chance of picking up a few pounds, too, if they took a tip from Scoop: “Eat the Bread of Champions… Three slices, three times a day!”
