Don't believe in the "Stones" (MHO); family history stated that "friendly" Indians guided the Brits into two parties; one party did go "in-land" into NC (Lumberton, NC area), & one party went north into the Dismal Swamp, coming out on the other side into "Virginia", where Chesapeake "Indians" took 'em in, including Virginia Dare. They sorta became WHITE INDIANS, and Pocahontas of the Powhatan Confederacy met 'em all. The Chesapeake Indians moved closer to Powhatan territory, REFUSING to join the Powhatan Confederacy; the Chesapeakes were all KILLED... including Virginia Dare. Now you know why Pocahontas was curious about John Smith, who became HER personal WHITE INDIAN, in that ADOPTION RITE. ANYWAY, Carry On!

interesting read, and to add to that, I've read (somewhere) a past article on The Lost Colony from the 30s-60s era that there was a father & son who created and sold fake stones with inscriptions related to this folklore. There was only 1 authentic stone found not by these thieves, that related to the colonist. I'd like to know more of these burial stones
