1940 penny smaller than a regular penny

I need help, please!!!
Today, after hoarding wheat pennies for a while, I discovered a 1940 penny that is smaller but heavier than a regular penny. Sorry I can't post a picture, I am still learning!
The penny weighs 2.753 gram.
I googled like crazy but can't find any information. Now I wonder if it's a mistake from the mint or ?? I don't know I am confused. The coin looks like it had a rough life but you can still read everything.
Please if anyone has any info I be very grateful!

Post clear, in focus, images of both obverse and reverse. Something is off if weight is light and diameter is small.

The coin is not overweight since a 1940 Lincoln Cent should weigh 3.11 grams or thereabout. Sounds like it might be a dryer penny which spent some time being tumbled in a clothes dryer.

Without seeing any pictures, I would agree with Huntman53, somewhere along the line, the coin has lost some of its copper for one reason or another.

I’ve found old pennies with the rims intentionally trimmed off by someone. Maybe for jewelry they were making. Could be something like that.

Some folks think that dryers are the only copper eaters. I have found plenty of sandwich coins and pennies in lakes that the acid has ate the copper away. Even silver coins after you break the crud off them there is not much left. Pictures are needed I agree
