1942/1 D Mercury Dime: is it or isn't it?
Found this is a junk silver coin roll I was getting ready to sell. Thought it was just a 1942 D to begin with, but took another closer look after taking the pics. The third pic is a blow-up that I photo'd from my computer screen: starting to show pixilation.
So ... what do YOU think it is. A 1942 D Mercury dime, or a 1942/1 D Mercury dime.
Here's a couple points for it maybe being real: 1) notice the doubling of Liberty's outline near the base, date, and near the B (hair) of LIBERTY, 2) can you see what looks nearly like a cud above the T in LIBERTY.
And, a couple points against: 1) no doubling of the 4 in the date that I can see; 2) the 1 doesn't go through the 2 or even near it. It's just kind of that big unicorn horn above the 2.
Just for comparison, here is what a "normal" 1942 Mercury should look like.
