I was metal detecting my front yard and I found this.
I live in western mass so I don't have a clue how it ended up here.

I was born and raised in Monson and when I was a kid(70's) I found an 1868 German coin digging in my yard, I still have it and it is my oldest coin still.

Are you in a older town? If your house or yard is pre 1950's then there's a good chance it was brought back from wwii. :)

I've been detecting in Western Mass for 4 years, and I've never found a German coin! I have found Canadian, British, and Chinese coins before.

Cool, interesting and puzzling find.
You just never know what'll turn up do you??

Congrats.

Since this was a wartime coin, it is very possible it was part of someone's collection. Maybe a kid had it for show and tell and lost it. You'd be surprised to see the number of foreign coins found at school yards. Nice find.
