Decided to go through My wheats since I shattered My heal bone. Anyway, I’ve came across 6 key date wheats so far, and then this strange 1957 D Wheat Cent. It almost appears that the whole outer rim didn’t take when it was made. Pretty sure I could pull the whole rim off, but I’m not gonna mess with it. Is this some kind of die error, or mis-print? It’s the same size as a Wheat Penny, the rim just seems to have separated. Any help or information will be much appreciated!!!! Thank You in advance!!
Happy Hunting!!!!
Ok, I couldn’t resist and separated the rim from the coin. Still very ODD!!! All ideas appreciated:)

“l. cutler” seems to be right. It does appear to be a bezel. I’ve taken it completely off and the coin isn’t split, or doesn’t come in half. Just seems very odd, but You never know what You’re gonna find in the ground!! Thanks for All the Help:)
And YES “Broke Detector”, Im bored out of My mind! That was about 6 or 7 pounds of Wheats I went through last night. I go today and hopefully the cast will come off!
HAPPY HUNTING!!!!

Looks like 60 years of environmental damage, plus a few hits.

Time for more coffee.

Absolutely doesn't look right. Rim is too thick and fat. Magic trick coin?

It may have been part of a piece of jewelry like a bracelet or pendant. The added rim would have had a small attaching point on it. Or it could have been set in a ring in which case it wouldn't have an attaching point.

It's a bezel, the coin was once a jewelry piece.

I think we're all really bored at this time of year... every other day I headed out to check the field to see if it's still frozen. :laughing7:

Wow! I completely missed the bezel when I first looked at this thread. Must be the trifocals. I sometimes use the wrong field of vision.

Time for more coffee.

You think they would’ve used a better date......:)

It may have been the owners birth year.
