1977 Kennedy Half - Dark in color

Hello everyone, I was CRH last year and came across this Kennedy Half. The obverse and reverse are identical in tone (dark). Can anyone explain why or how this discoloration happens?

As a general rule, abnormal coloring of a coin is an environmental issue. The coin probably came in continuous contact with something chemically acidic.....paper, plastic, cloth, liquids, etc.

It can also be caused by exposure to heat.

Or missing the Cladding or an improperly annealed planchet (i.e. sintered).
