Back in 1986 I put two rolls of pennies aside to be opened at a later date. I opened the first roll late last year with nothing found but a few common issues that they all have.

Today, i opened my second roll and found this. No L in the word Liberty.

If you view the penny in just the right light and angle you can see a very weak L

So this is my first error coin. I am pretty sure this is a common error but for me its my find of the day!

I know this is a common error likely caused by grease,
my question is, is it worth sending it in to be graded or just leave it alone. The coin never hit the general population.

The cost of professional grading will exceed the value of the coin by a sizable amount. Also, images of the coin show possible plating bubbles forming, which would further devalue the coin.

You are free, however, to do as you will.

Time for more coffee.

If someone offers you two cents for it sell it before they change their mind. I don't see any value as a collector coin.

I've had some coins graded even though it cost more than the coin but it's the meaning behind it to me I work hard to find what I do

Good eye Ammoman. Cool iberty penny.
GL out there.

You are right, it's a grease filled die. I had a couple die caps and die clashes slabbed, but it gets expensive.

Thanks for the response everyone! I will go with the majority here and not send it in. That said, i have put it in a 2 x 2 and will keep it as my first.
I do think its pretty cool and i am surprised these types of errors don't add very much value.
