19th Century Oil Lamp Burner

I found this at a 19th century former farm site. It’s a hinged oil lamp burner manufactured by the Edward Miller Co. in Connecticut.
On the circular wick advance is lettering that shows the patent date of July 21, 1863.
I’ve also included a photo of the type of oil lamp it would have been attached to.

thanks and thanks for replying. i posted this hoping others who had found similar would reply. my next thought is, why was it in the ground? its not part of a trash pit.

The one I found was right next to the house. Maybe the house burned down and they reused the foundation? Things change over the years, where once there was a trash pit now there's a house. Who knows why we find the things we do in strange places?

ok thanks for the info. this was about 50 feet from the house which was built in 1800 and is still standing.
