I just purchased a Fisher's CZ-20 used (considered better than the newer model) and spent this evening at a beach at a local lake. I was very impressed in the machine and was nailing clad left and right. In two locations I found what must have been pocket spills with quite a few coins in each. As evening approached I got what seemed to be a good but small gold signal. If I were to guess, I would assume it was an earring. Problem was that I didn't have a good scoop yet and this was in chest high water, not to mention it was starting to get dark. So.... I dropped two quarters to mark the spot, came home and made myself a makeshift scoop and plan on heading there in the morning to hopefully recover whatever it is. Just wanted to post this to say how much fun it was to get in the water. The ground has been hard and dry here lately with lack of rains and this makes a great plan B. Time to purchase some accessories.

After you get your scoop .... the next thing is to get a camera to take pictures of your finds! We love the stories but love the pictures even more. Good luck on finding your first gold ring with the CZ-20.

Welcome to the most exciting aspect of metal detecting, water hunting. You don't get over heated, you find less garbage and more goodies (depending on the area), and less people bother you because they have to go out of their way to get out there to you. ;D

I hope the item turns out to be gold. Depending how hard the lake bottom is buy the type of scoop that will be the best for you.

Good luck and post some pictures of your finds. It gives us all inspiration to get out there.
