I called a local church that I attended
Boyscouts at years ago.It was recently their 100th anniversary
I asked the woman on the phone if she would mind if i detected the grass lot and community garden area (freshly tilled)
I assured her I would respect the area and fill any holes and leave no trace i was there in the dirt or grass! She wasnt even hesitant! And told me to go for it
I thanked her and hit it about an hour later
I managed 2 no date buffs and a V nickel 190?

Dug alot of small pieces of lead flashing
A bunch of modern nickels..9 quarters. Lost count on dimes.

I was digging a solid 14 nickel tone on the safari and out popped my 5th gold of 2014

I could tell it was a cameo ring and when I wiped the face the whole cameo disintegrated into a chalky mess..must have been pumace/lava or a chalkstone of some kind.

I love when I find things in places I grew up..knowing I ran over them never knowing what was under my feet.. or that one day I'd grow to find and care for these items: )

May you all find exactly what your looking for. -LIM-

Beautiful ring! Too bad the cameo disintegrated. It has a lot of character.

Nice post and great words! Congrats on that find

Yeah old dude. I was pretty bummed when it self destructed..but I think I have a cameo I can file to fit it somewhere. :) .if not. Gold's gold.

Ty Ahab..may you get your white whale

Beautiful piece of gold! Enjoyed the post. Congrats!

I doubt the 9 C refers to the quality of the gold. It is probably the carat weight of the stone that was in the item.
9K would refer to the gold. You probably need to test the karat of the gold.
Nice find & HH

Thanks everyone for the kind comments

I'm pretty sure Europeans use or used Carat instead of karat. The stone was a lava/ chalk cameo so they wouldn't have stamped a stone weight

I could be mistaken but ive seen items stamped 9c many times in my thrift hunting days and they always came in under or around 10k

Not arguing with a guy who's name is jeweler 21!
you may be right

Ty for your thoughts on the ring. :) Happy hunting!

I too was thinking it odd that 9C would designate the "Karat" gold purity - but I was equally skeptical that it would denote the Carat
weight of a cameo type stone (as opposed to a precious gem ) Now I admit that I am unsure of what this hallmark is saying . Lesche
Is More - your experience with finding 9C -( and it tests right) , has me all messed up on this one . (Breezie - Help us out here !)

Great find! Now, get back in the hole and find the stone. :) Thanks for sharing...

It would be cool it you could mount a silver dime in the hole of that ring, or even a half dime, I am not sure what size the hole is.

beautiful ring. You are lucky to get this type of antique ring.

Yup, thats an old one, very nice...

Beautimous!!!

Good work on getting that site, that ring is so beautiful, great coin finds too!

This is my best post yet in terms of responses and well wishes.I appreciate every last comment suggestion and idea. Dfx Dave The top bezel is more half dime size but oval and the full band could fit a memorial in it
Thanks everyone.I'm new to your forum / any MD forum
Your a welcoming crowd. Ty.. -LIM-

Now that is a clever comment my friend :-) I appreciate the well wishes and hope my first full year produces something memorable. If it doesn't I've made some great finds already and enjoy every second that I'm out swinging. All the best, Abe
