2 questions from a newbie

1. while stripping copper wire, I find some wire is not copper, it is white; im thinking steel or someting like that. No, havent checked with a magnet yet. any ideas or observations on this type of wire?

2. Contact Points - From old car motors before Electronic Ignition, and contact points in general.... Are these made of silver???
 

When I worked at the phone company we had some wire that was silver coated and some that was just solder coated. Just cut it and look at the ends or grind into it and see if it copper on the inside.
 

Might be Coaxial cable, if it is don't bother with it.
 

Some copper wire is also zinc coated which would also make it look silvery.
 

#1 your wire is either aluminum or zinc coated as mentioned .

#2 your contacts arent going to be silver.
