Check ebay. Ebay is one of the best "price guides" in existence. Unless you have a unique item, you can quickly see how much an item is selling for (or if its selling at all) in a worldwide marketplace.

based on my quick ebay search, 48c in BU condition

The 2012 are low mintage. 2010 and 2011 are normal.

i hope they are worth something. just found one searching

2012 Canadian one cent is likely NOT low mintage.
The exact numbers are not yet published but should be over 100 million.
People are paying a premium on ebay for the same reason that they pay a premium for 2013 US coins, they dont know any better!

Most Canadian hunters save all their 2012, unlike us, who don't save the 2013. It is the last year of mintage too.

I'm gonna have to disagree here. The Canadian Government announced the end of the cent March 29, 2012 as part of the the national budget. This would have been know far before when the budget for the run of the cents would have been put together. It would make little sense to have a large mintage only to collect them back and melt them down in the following year. This is also why there are both steel plated and zinc plated coins in the mix for 2012. They used up the rest of the steel blanks from the 2011 run.

Although, the RCM has still yet to release the final numbers, I suspect that 2012 will have been a low mintage.

I guess we were both right, The total run for 1 cent for 2012 was 199,347,000. Of this 87,972,000 were CPZ and 111,375,00 were CPS. You guessed over 100 million, and I said it would be a low mintage. And it has not been this low since 1966.

Hope you got yours, I know I got mine!

My guess that the RCM had likely minted > 100 million pennies in 2012 was based on 2 facts (from the RCM site)
1) The RCM hasn't minted less than 400 million pennies in the last 20 years
2) The RCM minted pennies during the 1st quarter of 2012, then stopped.
Hence 400 million divided by 4 equals 100 million.

199 million pennies is relatively low compared to mintages of the last 40 years, but not so low that 2012 pennies are rare or difficult to find.

I bought a solid box of 2012 pennies (steel) from a bank in Windsor and sold 49 of the rolls on ebay. I netted after fees and shipping, $75.

It is difficult to say where the price of Canadian pennies will go (2012 or any other year) now that the RCM is actively destroying pennies.

I may have hoarded a few boxes before Feb 4th..... I got mine too eh. :occasion14:

I live right next to a Canadian border so I've managed to collect about 4 rolls of Canadian pennies. And a 1962 canadian silver quarter!
