21k gold ring

Short beach hunt yesterday with the manticore using the m8 coil. Got a 35/36 signal and dug a 21k gold ring, weighs 3.31 grams. I’m hoping someone can help with the makers mark, I’ve not had any luck so far. It’s marked MOH21 and it has some personalized engraving inside the band (initials and a heart). I don’t have 21k acid but it holds 18 and 22k acid eats it away very slowly. Anyway I’m hoping there is someone on the forum that can shed some light on the makers mark.

Unfortunately it is a very thick gold plate. I used a small triangle file on it and when you get deep enough you can see the base metal under the gold.

Rule of thumb, gold jewelry gets the expert treatment in manufacturing. Raised/sharp edges are removed, there won't be any machining marks, flaws are repaired, and the item is polished to a luster.

once it is smelted, you still have some gold, good find.

Try doing specific gravity test. Plating will not fool SG.
You will need a scale that reads in .01 grams.
Weight in air minus the weight in water.

Okay, I just did a specific gravity test, the ring weighs 3.31 grams on the scale, the suspended weight in water is .26. So the number I come up with is 12.73 which puts it below 14k. From the chart I found it indicates 10k.

Odds are high if you filed an edge it will reveal it is gold plated.
