Very nice find and save. Congrats and good luck out there.

Still a nice find. What history.

I love buttons! Who cares if it has a little damage..........that doesn't affect the history your holding in your hand!!,,,,,,,,,or the history the button has seen!!
Congrat's!!!

Good job! It's hard to dig buttons these days that are problem free. Congrats!

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Congrats on a very nice find!

Nice button even with the damage, what's worse, that button with damage or never recovering the button, regardless of the conditions I would be proud to have saved it. congratulations

The iron wasn't external, its part of the construction of the 18th C Button. It's the iron shank that has bust throw the front. Pretty common occurrence.
Should have left & sealed it, it was part of the button, so you just destroyed a bit of it's history. Oh well, still nice.

Thanks Crusader. I thought about that before I removed the iron and it didn't seem like it was part of the shank as I've seen the push through on pewter buttons before. At least my other 26th button still has the iron shank and is in really good shape. If I get another one like that I'll keep the iron on. As for the coating I used a water based polyurethane. Thank you for your input:icon_thumright:

hey don't get so down on yourself. I would have done the same thing.awesome piece of history
