Went out for a under 2 hour hunt yesterday after work, needed the break from the stress of my job. After many junk signals, I recovered several clad, one Wheatie, a bullet that first appeared to be a three ringer, I suddenly saw silver in the hole!!! A nice crisp 1887 Seated Liberty dime! Unfortunately I whacked it with my digger, at least it was on the back of the coin. The ground was difficult to dig in, filled with small rocks and roots. I haven't scratched a coin up like that in a long time, kind of bums me out but still a cool find.

The bullet is not a Civil War three ringer, I found one similar as shown in the photos last summer at a different location. Not sure the caliper I have to check my post from last summer.

Enjoy the photos and happy hunting!

Yeah, that was a crisp looking seated till your digger did about $30 damage to it but it happens to us all

Congratualtions on the beautiful dime find! :occasion14: Not to worry, we have all damaged a coin or relic in our "careers".

Oh my, that obverse is as frosty as they get...looks like mint to ground within months. Just pretend it doesn't have a reverse till the pain goes away... : )

Well done, a nice first third of 17!

Nice find to bad you kissed it that thing has detail.

Awesome condition on that dime ,too bad you nicked it.

Congratulations on another seated dime. You're hot my brudder. You're hot.

Sweet find. That thing looks like it went from the mint to the ground. Congrats to you Mister.

Interesting. A dime.......with 30 dollars of damage to it. ;) LOL

Lovely dime by the way!

yeah that thing is very sharp, beautiful. Forest Gump said it so it has to be true, "it happens"

That is a gorgeous seated. I drool over them because I have never found one. I am going to call the reverse a "beauty mark" and give you are hearty congrats. Happy hunting!

Too bad the digger got it, but that dime is in amazing condition regardless- Congrats!

Thanks for reply, Trust me it really bothers me... not the loss of monetary value, the fact that I destroyed the reverse of a coin that probably hasn't seen the light of day for over 100 years. But I tell myself it's still a cool find.

Congratulations on another seated dime. You're hot my brudder. You're hot.

Brother... when I saw The reverse I said to myself, damn I scratch a barber... and I saw the Seated Liberty and said.... @&&$ $&@@
&&@& !!!!!!

Thanks for reply

That is a stellar coin....absolutely beautiful! I'm with Z.K....just don't look at the other side. It happens to all of us. Nice recovery!

Oh well, better to have a scratched Seated than no Seated at all! Congrats on some nice finds
